History

RBL Fishing Corporation began as a joint entrepreneurship between siblings Ramon and Ben Lim, who were eager to delve into the then rich fish resources of Palawan, particularly in Cuyo Islands where they grew up.

 

Aside from its registered principal office at Cuyo, Palawan, the company maintains its major communication and maintenance office at Navotas, Metro Manila. Currently, the company operates a fleet of around 100 vessel and employs over 1,000 employees.

 

Through years of experience and acquired know-how, the company has solidified its position in this competitive industry that is commercial deep sea fishing.

 

Through the Years

Formation of Rabelim Fishing Enterprises with principal office at Cuyo, Palawan. Constructed two (2) wooden boats named Monalinda and Morning Glory to engage in “Sapiao” fishing. Catches were salted then marketed in Manila, Iloilo and Bacolod City.

Addition of two (2) wooden boats named Maharlika and Mayfair.

Construction of another wooden fish carrier, F/B Monalinda-III with a gross tonnage of 84.17. Catches were unloaded mostly in Navotas and at times in Iloilo.

Diversion of fishing operation to Purse Seining. Sapiao boats were converted into lightboats. Acquired two (2) wooden purseiners from Santos-Gamboa Development Corporation.

A lot of acquisition and construction occurred during this period. Acquisition of second hand steel boats from Japan, imported Monalinda-VII as fish carrier and Monalinda-VIII as purse seiner. Importation of two (2) wooden fish carriers from Japan, Monalinda-IX and Monalinda-X. Then, followed by acquisition of refrigerated fish carrier, additional purse seiners and sonar equipment. Purchase of 4,068 sq.m. lot in Navotas from Gabriel Family. Constructed RBL Building No. 1.

Incorporation of RABELIM FISHING ENTERPRISES into RBL FISHING CORPORATION. Acquired refrigerated fish carrier, Monalinda-XXII.

Acquisition of additional purse seiners and oil tanker. Started direct exportation of frozen tuna to the US.

Acquired license from Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to engage in ship building and repairs and constructed a small shipyard with a 900 gross tonnage capacity (named RBL SHIPYARD CORPORATION).

Started direct exportation of frozen tuna to Japan.

Acquisition of additional refrigerated fish carriers, lightboats, purse seiners and real properties in key cities & places. Acquisition of close to 4 ha. lot at Dagat-dagatan area (Navotas) for construction of ice plant and cold storage. Ice plants were actually contructed by 1988.

Started Tuna operations in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. Construction of cold storages.

Operation of Palawan Aquaculture Corporation under Project Baracuda. Preparation of Buenavista/Napuscod Palawan properties for Peninsula Shipyard Project. Invested, as part of consortion of Philippine companies, in a cannery in Bitung Indonesia, named PT. Sinar Purefoods International.
